Great opportunity
for your child(ren)! We
just completed our eighth season here at Providence Senate,
and experienced yet another successful year. Despite
being the smallest youth program in RI, we continue to be
one of the best run and most successful organizations in
the State as well as in our nation!
Our
youth bowlers continue to improve their bowling skills year
after year. This past season was no different, as we witnessed
more individual and team success from all of our bowlers
(new and old) than ever before. This is attributed to the
hard work and dedication displayed by both the junior bowlers
and the coaching staff. Our junior bowlers competed in tournaments
throughout New England, New York, New Jersey and Kentucky
this past season with much success.
Our young bowlers are given the opportunity
to learn the sport of bowling through our Certified Coaches
and volunteers, as well as come together to have a good
time making new friends in our family style atmosphere.
They, too, will be given the opportunity to compete both
locally and nationally in tournaments for awards, trophies,
merchandise and of course scholarships. Our league will
also present them with the opportunity to achieve individual
GOALS and be recognized for their accomplishments through
their hard work.
Our program and its members receive
coverage in the USBC Youth Magazine, TNBA Bowler Magazine,
and the Providence
Journal
and the Bowlers Ledger. Our league standing sheets are updated
weekly and available to view online by clicking on our official
league standing sheet link to the left of this page. We
are the only program in RI that is sanctioned by both the
National
Bowling Association, Inc. (TNBA) and the United
States Bowling Congress (USBC). The opportunity also
exist for them to be considered as one of the four junior
bowlers chosen annually from RI to attend the Dick
Ritger's Bowling Camp in New York, through the Ron Giguere
Memorial Scholarship Fund. And finally, Rhode
Island United States Bowling Congress Youth Association
(RIUSBCYA) has a website that displays events and directions
for all the junior programs in our state.
Succeeding with hard work,
our 2006-07 Highlights!
-
We fell just short of capturing our second
TNBA National Title this past May where we finished in
2nd place at the Junior Championship Roll-off.
-
We had two youth bowlers - Gian Papa
& Rai Doblmeier - notch a Perfect (300)
Game during the 2006-07 season, and quite a few of
our Program Records were also broken.
-
Both Deanna Outland (726) and Nicole
Trudell (724 & 717) became the first Senate female
bowlers to ever post a 700 series.
-
Jadee Scott-Jones became the first
girl under the age of eleven to post a 600 series (634
& 612).
-
Deanna Outland, Nicole Trudell,
and Jadee Scott-Jones went on to win the Ocean
State High Averages for the third time in their careers.
- Nicole Trudell (see picture below) became the
first senate female to win the State Pepsi Championship
in the scratch division in "Back to Back" years (2006 &
2007)

-
Rai Doblmeier tied our program
Record with an outstanding 790 series.
-
Jose Santana became the youngest
boy at 11 years old to roll a 700 series.
-
Both Rai Doblmeier and Justin
Scott-Jones ended the season with above 200 league
averages.
-
Coach Marty Jones earned his third
consecutive selection as one of the Top 100 Coaches (2005,
2006 and 2007) and was listed in the Bowlers Journal International
Magazine (July 07 Issue).
-
Two more Senate bowlers (Jazmine Price
- Saint Paul's College & Courtney Varin - Delaware
State University) earned NCAA scholarships this past season,
giving us three Senate members in all (Allyson Smith
- Texas Southern Univrsity) bowling on the collegiate
level.
-
Every one of our youth bowlers improved
their averages throughout the season, with the most improvement
done by Tori Whetstone (93 to 156) and Gazmine
Mason (94 to 148).
-
Lastly, Brandon Medina (a.k.a.
Coach "B") won the Senate Coach of the Year Award" and
this marked the first time that one of our junior bowlers
actually graduated and returned to give back to the program.
His jersey was also retired at our season ending award
day ceremony as our "All-Time Leading Scorer".
Four out of the Five Rhode Island bowlers that competed in
the 2007 USBC Junior Gold National Championship Tournament
in Buffalo, NY this past summer were from Senate (Nicole
Trudell, Jalen Scott-Jones, Alex Raedel and Rai Doblmeier).
Both Jalen & Nicole are the youngest bowlers in the history
of our state to ever participate in this prestigious event.
"Individual
commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work."

Keep
Your Arm Swing Loose
The key to a loose arm swing is keeping
your grip relaxed in the ball. Don't squeeze fingers
or thumb, keep them relaxed, especially the thumb. To
have a relaxed thumb in the ball your ball has to be
fitted and drilled correctly. If your thumb hole feels
loose it will cause you to squeeze the ball and then
muscle your swing. Inserts in the thumb and finger holes
can help give you a more secure fit. If you have a large
webbing at the base of your thumb adding extra bevel
around the top of the thumb hole will give you a deeper
secure fit.
